Variety Show Fundraiser Bring Your Friends for an Afternoon of Fun on February 11th!
Special thanks to all the performers contributing to this wonderful event! And thanks to Patsy Mattingley and Albert Friess who helped organize this fantastic fundraiser for SEF. Our first Variety Show promises to be great fun for your whole family! 2011-12 Teacher Grant Program "Clean
Sweep" for
In an unprecedented and historic event, Sequim Education Foundation announced
Friday that it would fund every one of the record 20 grant applications received
from our public school teachers. "Everyone
was a winner this year - especially the kids," stated Kathy Schock, SEF
Grant Chair. The grant committee
comprised of SEF Board members Jodi Olson, Elna Kawal, and middle school
representative Kelly Anders along with community members Ray Robinson and Bryce
Fish, listened to teachers' presentations on Tuesday, Oct 18 that consisted of
everything from technological assistive devices to field trips to books and
science materials to new after school clubs to help reach out to inspire
children. Funding for these projects
is made possible by the financial support of our Sequim community. "Our
donors really stepped up to the plate this year, and by the time of the
announcements, SEF had
acquired all the funds necessary to make this historic event happen," stated
SEF President Dick Hughes. Over
$12,000 will be presented to five different schools and will help benefit over
2,400 kids this school year alone. Sequim Education Foundation grants to public school teachers fund exciting learning experiences for Sequim public school students. Over $43,000 in grants have been given to teachers since 2001. Click Here For a complete list of SEF Teacher Grants.

Scholarships and Other Prizes 2012 Engineering Challenge! 9:00
am, Saturday, February 25, 2012
The Kit Competition will be for students in grades K-5. Students entering this division will build their trebuchets using the Pitsco Trebuchet Kit supplied by SEF which is available from school science specialists.
Entry forms and rules for the Engineering Challenge are available from Carla Morton at Greywolf School and Dave Hasenpflug at Helen Haller. Trebuchet Workshop Students entering the Trebuchet Kit Challenge are provided a kit with all the parts to build their own working trebuchet. Teachers Dave Hasenpflug and Carla Morton are offering after-school workshops this Fall to help student build and test their machines for the February 2012 event. Mars Rover Re-Run Competition The committee decided to re-run last year's Mars Rover Competition for students in grades 6-12 with one winner and one prize. This would allow competitors who wanted to perfect their 2010 entries one final opportunity to take home the prize. Challengers should register with the Science Specialist/Teacher at their school. $5,000 and counting! SEF Launches "Thanks
to the generosity of one of our founding donors, who chooses to remain
anonymous", President Dick Hughes said, "SEF has launched a program to
buy shoes and socks for public school students in need."
The
new program allows teachers to obtain vouchers for students in their classrooms
needing shoes. The SEF voucher can
be spent at the Sequim Wal-Mart Store which is working with the education
foundation. Any student receiving a
voucher can go to the store and buy shoes and socks of their choosing.
The SEF voucher will cover the amount of their purchase up to $40. "The
goal of SEF is to inspire students to learn, but everyone needs dry warm feet in
order to concentrate on their studies", Hughes continued. SEF
has always helped individual students with special needs.
The new Student Voucher Program allows classroom teachers to partner
directly with the foundation for the comfort of their students.
SEF relies on the Sequim community to fund its programs to benefit Sequim public school students. The foundation offers grants to teachers for classroom projects, fellowships to students for extra-curricular learning opportunities, academic scholarships for graduating high school seniors, and scholarship prizes for under-graduates winning their annual Engineering Challenge or Student Film Festival. The standard by which every SEF program is measured is whether or not it will inspire students to achieve excellence. SEF is a public charity managed by an unpaid board of volunteers. All contributions are tax-deductible.
